describe your style in four words.
Refined, elegant, playful and slightly off-center.
Self-care is important for mental health. What are some practices you prioritize, and how do they benefit you?
Meditation, movement, cooking and connection are the practices I try and address each day. When I tend to those, I inherently feel better.
You've embraced natural beauty, but what role do you believe beauty plays in the aging process, and how can we redefine beauty as we age?
The privilege of aging is beautiful. To truly embrace our appearance, take care of ourselves as best we can and create memories that show up in our face as reminders of a life well lived is the best way to age.
What are your favorite beauty products or rituals for promoting healthy skin and a youthful glow?
Our serotoner has changed my skin for the better and reduced redness and inflammation over time. I also love matcha, as a drink and as a mask, and think that sleep, movement and nutrition are the keys to a true glow.
How do you think society's expectations around beauty and aging have changed over the years, and where do you see this trend going in the future?
I think this varies so much depending on how you are approaching beauty and aging, but in my mind the act of aging is beautiful. Taking care of yourself while getting older creates confidence and trust in your appearance. True beauty comes from within, and everything we do on the outside is extra.
Through your work at CAP Beauty, what do you hope to accomplish in promoting a more holistic and inclusive vision of beauty?
To alter the idea, beauty is a vapid and topical pursuit. I want to share the power of engaging with beauty in all aspects of your life, not just the topicals you use and open up the dialogue around how truly transformational and powerful surrounding yourself with beauty can be.
Congratulations on the launch of Serotoner! What inspired its creation, and what benefits does it offer?
I wanted to create a product that not only offered benefits physiologically, but also addressed how the mind is engaged when using skincare products. The ingredient, griffonia, contained in serotoner contains 5-HTP, the precursor to serotonin, and offers a calming effect to the skin, therefore leading to a calm mind. I wanted to approach the range from an unconventional place and share the power of plants through its formulation beyond just topical benefits. We also incorporated desert botanicals, for a deeply hydrating and nourishing experience. This product is one of a kind, I couldn't be more proud of its formulation and what it does.
CAP Beauty offers both skincare and wellness products. How do you see the intersection between beauty and wellness within your brand?
To me, they are inextricably linked. As someone with an autoimmune disease, I have seen and felt firsthand the benefits of incorporating topicals with ingestibles and knew that we had to include both when concepting CAP.
Can you share any exciting developments or future plans for CAP Beauty?
This year is really a year of growth and maturity for CAP. The full skincare range is being worked on while I write this, as well as many exciting collaborations, in addition to a full brand redesign and new website.
What does it mean to be a modern woman?
To be grateful and aware of what women have done in the past to afford us our current lives.
What's a small way you've introduced sustainability into your lifestyle?
I live in the country so my footprint is a bit smaller than if I lived in the city. Here I compost, shop mostly at the farmers market, try and reuse all I can and do my best to be mindful and thoughtful in my decision making.
Do you have any daily rituals you can't live without?
Movement, cooking and reading.
When do you feel most at peace?
In nature with animals, clear blue skies and a warm sun above.
